Position Overview

FIRST Chesapeake is seeking a dynamic and organized Operations Associate to join our team. This position is perfect for college graduates looking for operational experience, particularly  FIRST Alumni, who are eager to apply their skills in a fast-paced nonprofit environment. The role involves supporting operational efficiency, IT management, AV process development, and enhancing stakeholder engagement.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operational Support: Assist in day-to-day operations across various departments to ensure smooth and efficient functioning.
  • Warehouse Management:  Support inventory management and day to day operations of the  FIRST Chesapeake warehouse including receiving and shipping of equipment.
  • Logistics Support: Assist with logistics and procurement to ensure resources are effectively utilized.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process enhancements to increase organizational efficiency, including updating operating material for the current year.
  • Project Coordination: Support project management efforts to ensure timely completion of organizational objectives.
  • Equipment Management:  Maintain event support equipment including Audio Visual resources, road cases, competition field components, and power equipment. Develop documentation for volunteers on setup and operation of equipment at events.
  • IT Operations:  Oversee the upkeep and maintenance of laptops, tablets, computers, TVs,and other electronic equipment needed for events and staff. Manage access to software suites and online tools necessary for operations as well as provide technical support for staff/volunteers.
  • Event Support:  Attend events as assigned (minimum of 6 events annually) and be the  FIRST Chesapeake representative to handle and manage event issues, complete post event reports, and debrief with staff.
  • Reporting:  Produce regular reports detailing operational activities, financial status, and project outcomes.
  • Mission-Driven Work:  Actively promote and represent FIRST Chesapeake’s mission to deliver equitable, high-impact STEM programming. Ensure all responsibilities reflect our values of access, innovation, and community empowerment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Logistics Management, or a related field. Equivalent related job experience in lieu of degree will be considered. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Enthusiastic and eager to learn and grow within the nonprofit sector.
  • FIRST Alumni preferred, demonstrating teamwork and problem-solving skills developed through  FIRST competitions.
  • Experience with Audio Visual equipment is highly desirable.
  • Experience with IT services and management is highly desirable.

Work Conditions

  • Warehouse location in Savage, Maryland. Tasks will require an average of 1-2 days at that location per week.
  • Standard business hours with flexibility required during peak project times or special events.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 50 lbs.

Compensation

  • Competitive salary range of $45,000–$55,000 annually , commensurate with experience.
