Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The purpose is to provide quality patient care by fostering therapeutic relationships, assisting in active treatment and supporting the hospital in the pursuit of the LSH Strategic Plan. The MHDD Technician must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principals of growth and development, and possess the ability to assess and interpret data to identify age specific needs. Participates in Natural Work Teams and/or Quality Action Teams.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Safety and Security Functions
- Provide direct observation of residents by utilizing on premises security systems. Also conducts visual and phone checks when needed.
- MHDDT staff will be responsible for controlling contraband on premises by conducting random room searches and directly observing the opening of incoming mail.
- Assist in the prevention of escapes by continuously monitoring Reintegration Facility resident whereabouts.
- Maintain order and discipline at Reintegration Facility by adhering to policies and procedures. MHDDT staff will model appropriate behavior.
- Monitor residents during visits according to Reintegration Facility Policy/Procedure. Provides specific level of supervision at visitation areas to ensure safety/security of residents and visitors by verifying identity of visitor and inspecting property brought to resident areas, according to agency policy.
- Maintains safety for residents on living units, at meals, in classrooms, at work sites, during activities, at program areas and hygiene areas.
- Ensures that unit rules are maintained in a fair and consistent manner.
- Secures items that pose a safety/security risk such as two-way radios, tools, locks, and keys.
- Observes physical facility for deviations from the norm which might indicate drugs or weapons being manufactured, imported or hidden within the facility.
- Utilizes specialized training for residents identified as high risk (e.g., suicidal, elopement, withdrawal, falls, etc.)
- Assists with searches for contraband as indicated by agency policy and procedure.
- Reports and documents any threats of resident safety/security.
- Protects confidentiality of PHI by following HIPAA regulations.
- Responds to crisis situations as needed.
- Performs tasks in keeping the unit clean and orderly and providing a safe, comfortable, therapeutic environment
- Demonstrates good personal hygiene and follows infection control guidelines, including frequent hand hygiene.
- Supervises resident movement to ensure resident and community safety
- Escorts residents to locations and appointments on campus and off grounds as assigned.
- Provides supervision of Reintegration Facility residents hospitalized in other facilities.
Interaction with Resident
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for residents.
- Interact frequently with residents in a therapeutic manner which encourages them to follow program guidelines and advancement through Step Levels.
- Model appropriate relationships with staff and residents.
- Provide clear and direct feedback to residents about issues as allowed by policy and directing them to appropriate staff for consultation as necessary.
- Enforce program rules in a fair and consistent manner.
- Assist residents by aiding them in meeting their Treatment Plan/Step System goals.
- Escort residents on and off grounds to appointments, as appropriate.
- Learns resident goals/objectives and documentation process.
- Observes resident behaviors to detect, report, and document significant behaviors and/or signs of stress
- Gathers and documents data specific to treatment plan goals.
- Provides clear and direct feedback to residents about issues, and directs them to appropriate staff for consultation/resolution.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
- Completion of an established training program approved by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Two years’ experience in one or more of the following: corrections, mental health services, law enforcement, adult or juvenile patient treatment for disturbed or mentally ill, behavioral science.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements :
- Ability to pass a KBI background and pre-employment drug test.
